Enniscrone Men’s Shed in West Sligo is a brilliantly unique shed. Within the yard they have a container which is insulated and has windows and doors, LED lights, WIFI and security cameras and encompasses many carpentry & welding activities. Installing the container was such a huge big operation where like the arrival of the 747 airplane in Enniscrone it had huge numbers watch the container being hoisted over a high yard wall.
The shed members make bench tables, flower boxes, bird houses, candle holders and a lot more. The shed particularly enjoy carpentry, welding and wood turning. Recently it was received funding for new bikes of which they take trips down to the beachfront. The shed’s first meeting was in 2018 and the whole journey is so well documented in a welcome hardback visitors book. The youngest member is 28 years old and the oldest member is 86 years old so it really is a shed for all. The shed opens its arms to new members as it plans an exciting season ahead.
This year Enniscrone Men’s Shed were awarded a SICAP community grant for a brand new gate which will enhance the entrance and security of the shed. The shed meet twice weekly from 10am-4pm and also have access to West Sligo Family Resource centre for meetings. Like many of the Men’s shed numbers decreased during Covid but 12 core members remain and new members are very welcome. No skills are required to join the shed, feel free to call in for a cuppa and a chat.
