Martina is the tutor for the Digital Skills for Citizens programme currently running in the Northside Community Centre in Sligo town.
Martina sees first-hand the difficulties people face with going online – from lack of technical knowledge to the fear of a classroom and the anxiety caused from learning a new skill.
To overcome this classes are kept to a 5-person maximum. This allows her to spend as much time as possible with each participant. She helps maximise the social interaction between class members as the programme is as much about meeting people as it is about learning.
Nuala from Ballytivinan attended the Digital Skills for Citizens programme in the Northside
“I was very nervous about signing up to the class as I know nothing about computers but I didn’t need to worry. Martina is extremely pleasant and in no way puts pressure on you to learn, she helped me to work at my own pace. I found her very patient with everyone who attended the class and the cup of tea and the chat with the others was a nice bonus”.
On completion of the programme Nuala feels more confident about going online and is looking forward to signing up to a similar class.
Her son has since bought her a smartphone!
