Located in the Fairgreen in the heart of Collooney village, Collooney playground has been entertaining the children of the village and its hinterland since it was developed by Collooney Village Redevelopment in 2011 with assistance from the LEADER 2007-2013 programme
Following an act of wanton vandalism in 2019, the playground was forced to close due to extensive damage to the play equipment and surfaces. Collooney Village Redevelopment began a fundraising campaign to put together matching funds for a LEADER application to undertake remedial works and to install CCTV to deter antisocial behaviour. The project was awarded €8,823.96 of LEADER aid to support Rural Youth projects and the playground has opened for play once again in March 2021.
