The Tubbercurry business community have made a valiant effort over the years to provide decorative lighting in the town for the Christmas period. However, these businesses cannot provide adequate funding that gives a fair reflection to the efforts of the area.
Christmas Lighting provides an important ‘feel good factor’ to the area during the festive season. This project sees over €70,000 of investment into upgrading the electrics and purchase of new Christmas lights in order to give a sense of vibrancy and reflect good community spirit.
The lighting enhances the area’s image for seasonal visitors. It gives effective imagery for area promotion. It can add to the vision of South Sligo and Tubbercurry being a great place to work, live and do business. The project was supported by LEADER grant aid.
“We would like to acknowledge the support of LEADER and also individual members of the south Sligo Community as well as local businesses that have given generously to fundraising efforts to date to match finance this project.
The ongoing effort to raise funds will hopefully enable us to put on an even better & brighter display next year. The project could not have been completed and paid for with out the efforts of all of the following: Tubbercurry Christmas Lights Project Management Team: Geraldine Brennan, Gearoid Surlis, Paul Kennedy, Shane Mulkeen and Roger Mc Carrick. The Fundraising Committee: John Gillespie, Gail Walsh and Geraldine Brennan. The Contractor, Damien Wimsey Electrical and the support of Sligo Leader Partnership CLG in putting our application together.”
