Cloonacool Community Park is wholly owned by Cloonacool Community Park CLG, a company established to develop and operate a sports park on behalf of the Cloonacool community.
Since its establishment in 1997 the directors have been fully committed to providing facilities for sports and leisure activities which are available to all community members and sporting organisations, and indeed which have been used by clubs, teams and groups from across the entire county and further afield. The park and facilities are maintained by members of the Rural Social Scheme
One of the longstanding aspirations of the group had been the development of a loop trail about the perimeter of the park which is suitable as an off-road route for walkers, joggers, runners and junior cyclists.
For many it is a safer alternative to using public roads for such activity. Traffic counts and the size of vehicles are notably on the increase in the locality and this either deters people from participating in such activities or considerably lessens their enjoyment.
The entire length of the pathway is illuminated with low-level energy efficient lighting, which is intended to minimise light pollution and energy consumption. This project was awarded LEADER funding of €39,327.
